Why do we play Freelancer?
-
**As far as GE goes, not really getting any help with it. I work on it about once or twice a week but I have been spending most of my time lately programming on FL Tools, playing FL and fixing bugs in SSM…
The reason I play is mostly the fun I have with other players. Most people are nice but there is the occasional problem child, usually those are pawned pretty quick by the regulars ;)**

cause FL means freedom
you can go where you want, can do what you want.
There are so many things to exlpore…
I played Freelancer for ca. 3000h… and every day i find new secrets.
This game is nearly perfect! (The perfect game is…
Freelancer - finished)oh, and i know to much to stop to play it.
PS: its quite clear: a thread like this is ALWAYS by Bas
PPS: I was not a space-sim fan at the beginning of my FL carreer.
I just played it because… it was boring. (usualy I make the best decicions of my life when i´m getting bored :D) -
Cause imho there is still no better 3d space game right now.
It still looks cool and it still keeps challenging.PS. I don’t know Eve Online, cause i m not going
to spent a 15$ a month 4 playing a game
(even if i might waste more with FL + WTS).
PPS. It’s getting better than EO - atm i d read a note,
‘Fable3’ is planed with an in-game-shop were you’ll pay
with real $$$ for upgrades or other stuff you want in the game. -
Simple answer…
I’m crazy.
THat’s why play Freelancer -
… I’m crazy…
… always thought you play, cause you can shoot your husband.

Freelancer - finished)Yes, Freelancer is nearly perfect. But something need to be optimize and modification/addition, exp. the Business systems, System size etc.
Well, Microsoft opened Allegiance’s source code, why Freelancer not? Who want to call Baller and ask why?

FL is also awesome, mainly in it’s crazy dynamic pvps.
Eve on the other hand is very thoughtful and this is also my kind of a game. The point with eve and fl is that it’s bad idea to try to compare them, they both are awesome
PS btw you can pay for eve with ingame money, currently about 290mil/month.

I don’t know why other guys can get L2/L3 equipments from 0.0. I’m only fly in union area, the oldguy in our clan told me, if i’m see any red or white player in this system, i must goto pos or station for safety and report……

I play Freelancer because i love space game, and Freelancer support Multiplayer and can be modification (both server and client).
Moding and playing Freelancer aways is a good and interesting things for me, and i can share my mod and found and idea etc, that is amazing! So i think if have not other game can replace Freelancer, i will play it forever.

I Play freelancer because after years of playing everything else…there still is nothing like it… Longest i ever spent away from the game (online or off) was the 6 months i spent modding HL2, then I found better FL mods and better friends, and never saw a reason not to continue playing… (apart from a 2 year “no net” hiatus that really sucked!!)
Now i mod the dam thing… so im well hooked and don’t look like being unhooked for many a year to come.
GE is the only alternative i have seen that has a chance of overthrowing the mighty Freelancer, EVE is a scam… seriously… when really looked at next to Freelancer… at least when a dev cheats in FL… it hasn’t cost you $$ for the privilege…
@ LS… I am seriously interested in GE m8… just neck deep in fixes at the moment trying to get some sort of Xmas time release in order For XLR… hopefully then i’ll have some time to play with other ppl’s toys 8-)

Why do we play freelancer (still)? The answer is simple as many people said: there is no any other space sim that provides as many possibilities as the freelancer could.
Personally, my ever best is the Elite2-Frontier, which provided almost infinite possibilities including piracy/trading/hunting/exploring etc… many shiptypes that you have to repair after every 4-5 jumps, planet/station spinning, huge distances and the most important: millions of starsystems, that you never reach it but you want to reach it, manual docking if you didnt have computer or it was out of order, real 3D system was the navmap so it was just perfect.
After this program there was nothing that could provides as many freedom as this program did.
Then the Freelancer arrived, what was (is) the best shot ever since Elite2…
Frankly, the storyline of Freelancer was the first thing what grabbed me, then the stars-systems, the individuality of the ships and finally the strain of playing.
Of course there are some things that annoying me, like the trade lanes, stationary planets/stations, no real planets with their atmospheres, can not flying in it, nor manual landing.
But since Freelancer, there are no other programs have been made, that just only near to the Freelancer. (i dont care of the great graphics, i rather interested in playing).
And now i started modding( and ive seen how many possibilites are in, and what things could be made as some “big guns” done) so i dont have time to testing new programs with great graphics, pointless, idiot storyline and playing.
The long and short of it is, i stay at Freelancer. -
I think what first got me was the reputation system. The fact that you could befriend any faction in the game, even the small niche ones, was just damn cool. I found the wealth of information associated with everything pretty neat as well - I often found it fun to just cruise around and F9 stuff for its information and back-story.
I’d say what got me hooked for the long run was the ability to extensively mod the game. The biggest thing I could level at Freelancer at the time was that you couldn’t hire AI wingmen - something I eventually worked around.

I play Freelancer cos i’ve tried the trial back 2003 in my magazine.
Actually, i was never interested in that game. But there weren’t good trials and so i decided to isntall FL. And there i was - totally labbergasted by the engine, the first missions. I never played a game before with 3D systems + this graphic. XWA was great and it still ist, but FL has replaced it from the beginning.Release - got me a copy at the next store wen’t home and started the game Completed it very fast. After the first mods came out, i’ve been playing it with different mods like Evolutions 1.27 and 2.29 NRII. Also a old version WTS World or minimods. I think i’ve played the storyline about 7-9 times :S
Multiplayer experience came with Evolutions 2.29 NRII, hard NPCs, some more weps, a full server, I’ve been in the Rheinland Clan and it was a great one. And after a while, all connections to FL lost.A few years later, i’ve installed it again, checked the actual mods and found a mod with stuff i was looking for - a SciFi mix. I had the choice between Solorus and WTS World CCN. I went to WTS after i had too much problems installing Solorus (sorry Witchy,F!R,Grey Wolf and friends ) and WTS just came up with a simple install. That was 2008.
Now i am/was/am a WTS member doing some simple minor modding stuff for the next version.
And all because of the trial in that magazine
