Freelancer Fatal Error - Onboard Graphics Chip

Freelancer Fatal Error:
“Freelancer did not detect a 3D capable video adapter in your system. If you have a 3D capable video adapter installed please try rebooting. You may need to reinstall the game.”I am trying to install Freelancer on my Mini PC so my sister can play on Discovery with me.
Here are the specs:CompaQ Mini 730EO
CompaQ 730EO SpecificationsI know that the problem here is my Intel GMA950, but take a look at this list:
Intel GMA950 Game Compability List
So I believe that it should be able to play Freelancer with graphics set as low as possible. But as I don’t have a dedicated graphics card Freelancer gives the error described and it wont start.
I am running Windows 7, and have Intel GMA905 Driver vers. 8.15 installed. Here is what I have tried so far:
Activating the mod, installing discovery update 3 - Same problem.Any ideas on how to fix this problem? or do you think it’s completely impossible to run Freelancer with that graphics chip?
Maybe overriding Freelancers need to check the grahpics card and FORCE it to start?

I checked the “updated” list posted on one of the links you put in here, and it clearly says Freelancer can be run. I get this error sometimes when I frequently switch mods.
Try uninstalling FL, then installing it. DON’T just press “reinstall”, as that overwrites the files instead of deleting them.
This should do the trick.

Reading your post I could not determine whether Freelancer won’t start because it believes your videocard is not 3D capable or that it generates the message but does start.
In the exe folder sits a file called flconfigdatabase.txt.
This file was created when freelancer was developed, so around 2002. In this file all the 3D capable videocards at that time known were incorparated. Now there are more recent flconfigdatabade.txt files around (try EOA consortium, but that one is dated as well), but my guess is that your videocard chipset is not present.
If your videocard parameters are not in the flconfigdatabase, which is almost certain the case, you will get the message you reported when installing the game. You have not mentoined what happens when you ignore the message and did continue the installation. Chances are that that the game will install and be playable. Then you are okay and you can ignore the message.
If that is the case the only thing that remains is an errormessage appearing in the flspew, but you won’t see that.
If you want to get rid of that too you need to find the relevant parameters for your particular videocard and put them in the flconfigdatabase.See you in Sirius,

Freelancer is installed and everything. I get the error message when I try to start the game.
I have tried activating the Discovery 4.85 mod, which does have the Intel GMA950 chipset incorporated into the flconfigdatabase.txt.

I have no idea what it means. Maybe someone could tell me where the problem is here. Note I am using GMA950 (945) - Some of the first ones on top.
Some if they are not “the” relevant paramenter for Intel GMA950 chipset which are? I need some help here.
NOTE: I have driver version 8.15 installed. Maybe it’s too new? Or? -
I just took a look on this site’s download section and there were some possible solutions so I tried them all.
Freelancer Hardware Update = Same problem
Freelancer Quickfix Patch v.1.0c = Same problem
Jason’s Freelancer Patch = Same problem……
I’ll start crying pretty soon

Well I suggest you do try older drivers for your graphics chipset first, older drivers have solved many problems for other people.
If you have your original disks with your machine get the graphics drivers from there and replace the current drivers with those, or run the utility to set them up if there is one.
If that does not work, it may be DirectX if you have newer version than 9.0c. This is harder to do - to go back to DirectX v9.0c, which might recognise your chipset or assume it is capable without more intense checking. You might need to re-install Windows to do it.
Sorry I have nothing confirmed, but you should be able to solve this once someone gives you the right pointer.
When you do find the fix please please tell us what did fix it, so other people can fix their problem too - if others had told us you would know too now, because I am sure others have found the fix.
Good luck

YEEEEEEAAAAAHHHH!!!
I FIXED THE PROBLEM!! BOOM BABY!!!
Turns out CompaQ 730EO only supports 1024 x 576 as the highest resolution. So I just went into the perfoptions.ini and changed it from 1024 x 768 to 1024 x 576!
IT NOW IT STARTS!! JUESUS CHIRST I AM HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!

heheheh…
OK thanks for telling us the solution!

Having seen this error a few times come through the “bug submissions” of my own mod… i have to thank you for a wonderful solution here… and one i’ve never thought of.
This is a fairly common problem these days… maybe needs more investigation & a overall common fix?

For anyone who could not get a similar fix to work, or who tried the widescreen fix or the config databases to no sucess, I found that putting the files from the ENB dx8-9 converter into the EXE folder allowed me to launch the game in Win 7. It seems like the DX8 dll did not install in the first place so the game would never get past the fatal error.
