Norton anti considered freelancer exe a virus too little users
-
the night before yesterday i come home from work. i want to beta test some things i put into freelancer. so i click on the icon on my desk i see a red x flash on the right side of my screen it is norton telling me that fl exe is a virus too few users and deletes it on me. si i reinstall the same thing. so since i get norton free from my isp i deleted it no more norton. see ya.

I think Norton has laos some kind of exception list.
-
it checks what you download or the softwhare on the computer and the amount of users that use the softwhare. it uses that to say something is a virus or not. i have save fraps when i download it otherwhise norton says its a virus and wont open it.

Exception list = You can specify certain files not to be detected by the scanner.

yes i unclicked that and it still comes up but anyway i can still play the game
-
I am not sure…you might need to configure it in the Internet Explorer, but I might confuse it with a similiar warning.
Yes, even if you don’t use the IE, the setting might lies there.

It’s the original Microsoft FL.exe file? Did you okay one version, activate a mod that uses a different version, and then try playing the mod to see this? (it thinks the version has changed each time, so asks again?).

chips is right i am using a mod . i am working on my own mod for vanilla freelancer but heres the catch i have been working on this mod since i build this computer withe the same files just adding more encounters. it has to be something new with windows 7 and windows update because i have been playing with this for a year. let me do another fresh install and see.

Better solution: find an AV that isn’t Norton. Anything, Anything, is better than Norton. If you’re stuck deciding whether you should munch on broken glass, infect your computer with Trojans and viruses, or Install Norton - pick the Trojans. They’ll cause far fewer problems than the other two options.

Dude…norton is a piece of #$%% (There’s no nice way to say it)!
It uses more CPU time and memory than most and doesn’t even offer good protection. Not to mention how relatively expensive it is.
Try ClamAV, Avast!, AVG, anything else.
Or just use linux
Edit:
From my own experience norton messes a lot of windows updates up, especially service packs distributed over windows update. Back in vista, norton made changes that often required Vista SP1 to be installed on a fresh copy of vista.

i already uninstalled norton this is now coming from windows. norton is free for me comcast supplies it

i found the problem it was the no cd patch was causing problems. everything works fine now.
-
That’s norton for you. I’ve used the no cd patch for years and i’d throw a fit if my av started doing that. That’s grounds for deletion in my book. Plenty of better, cheaper, free av’s out there. Cleanse your pc now, you know you want to.

its not just the anti virus that totally deleted the freelancer exe. windows 7 made me verify that the game was safe every time i tried to play it after i got rid of norton.

yes i am admin plus uac has been turned off it must be a new update in windows 7 because i have been using the vanilla starter pack from down under for a whole year now. playing with it modding it this is something new.
-
Even if UAC is off, you need to right-click > Run as Administrator to actually, well, run it as admin.
-
i will try that when i get home from work. actually i try it right now.
well i just tried it no joy . i am going to try my own from the order mod. ok this is what i found out the exe file from the order mod works no cd so i guess it has to do with how much editing has actually gone into the exe file.
