Error Hooking Content.dll
-
When FLhook loads I get the following error
“error hooking content.dll” (in flhook window)
Server shows 33msec load for 30 seconds then crashes.
Having a bugger of a time figuring it out. All I realy need FLhook to work for is capship docking and FTL/Hyperdrive.
(change name and sendcash would be a cool bonus).I’ve rewritten the flhook.ini to represent the mod, fixed the system/base names, changed the ships from the default (freelancer) to the mod ships (Freeworlds).
Anyone have any ideas that might help get it working?

You’re using the 18.29f exe of Freeworlds, right? Did you not use the .exe I sent you? As your mod worked fine for me once I fixed up the .exe.

I got (partly) the same problem.
No crash, no high load - but no hoocking of contend.dll.Any hints about “fixing the exe”?

Do you have the 1.1 version (or a derivative ot it) of content.dll? FLHook will not work with the 1.0 version.
^Yeh, bet thats the issue.

Another thing, sometimes the 1.0 content.dll is distributed to support OpenSP. I’ve got a patched 1.1 content.dll that supports OpenSP. I can put this up for download or you can make your own - the patch codes are here:

yes thats my issue with it as well… I in no way will sacrifice the Open SP for any addon…
Its just to critical to XLR… and its actual SP “story” mod. that the SP works…Yes Cannon the patched 1.1 would be a godsend! not all of us want to kill the SP… ;D

Yeah, I tried it and had the same problem, but thats about the time I scrambled the whole directory and had to start over, Kick me another link for the file and I’ll give it another shot now that I have a clean install for it. (would I be able to pull the freelancer.exe, and the content.dll from the 18.43 mod and use those?)
I always install the 1.1 update right after I install freelancer, so I don’t think thats the problem.
I’m sure that the content.dll has been at least slightly modified by the 1.66 crew, it would almost have to be for all the new data, so it easily could be having an issue there. Sushi’s mod is a 1.66 variant, and they use it, so it has to be possible to do it with the modified files. (although I’ve fiddled with enough of the files to have caused this problem myself over the years).
And on Lancers someone mentioned the error may have something to do with custom factions. I have done lots of work, but I was saving faction work for the next “big project”. (still doesn’t mean that I haven’t messed it up somehow.)K, I’m going to try using the EXE and content.dll that I have here, then I’ll try Sushi’s when he sends me the link.
I’ll check back when I’ve done that and see if the LIST OF THINGS TO CHECK has grown and to update you all. Thanks

Using Sushi’s edited FLserver.exe did the trick this time.
Thanks to all that tried to help.
So, we will have to ask sushi about the exe edit for the specific answer to the problem
(Oh, my flhook was corrupted when I tried the modified exe the first time, I reinstalled the FTL/Regen version and the modified exe worked.) -
Laugh till I cry,
I got it to hook the content.dll. Everything loaded beautifully. I even made two ftl jumps without a problem.
So I unload the mod, zip it up, turn it into a flmod file. Load the flmod file into mod manager, activate the mod. I start a new character and when i get to the MP nexus,…… the only npc there is George Lucas (who offers the pvp bribe).
All the other npc’s have disappeared.
So I unload the mod and reload the orriginal mod, start up a server and the same thing. I unload that mod, and load the previous version of the mod,… also the same thing.
Had to unload the mods, delete them, uninstall freelancer, reinstatll it. At this time I was finaly able to start a server/game that had the NPC’s in place.
Now I’m back to trying to get the hook reinstalled and functioning properly. It hooks the content.dll and appears to be funcioning properly until you get into the game. The /help shows the list of commands, but they aren’t being accepted. (yes I told it to listen in the flhook.ini and it says that its listening on both ports.)
I’m sure its just a scrambled file somewhere, and I’ll just have to mess with it till I figure it out. Just posting this for a laugh. (If your reading this, I’m sure you’ve ran into simular issues.)
