Deletion Warnings

I realize that displaying the FLCN bar is a requirement for listing. However, you know yourself that the bar has had a LOT of problems – both in reliability and in performance.
The bar has a global audience. I know that you recently re-hosted on a higher-reliability server, but have you thoroughly tested performance on continents other than Europe?
I see some good Freelancer sites on your list who have removed the bar because of the issues. I wonder if it might be premature to remove those sites until they have had a good opportunity to test performance and observe reliability? I would think that could take several months, at least.
I mostly look at this from the user perspective, which is that the bar is most useful when it contains links to all of the good sites – regardless of whether those sites display the bar or not.
Obviously, do what you think is right. I am just suggesting an alternate POV.
I see your point, but the mutual link exchange has been one of the key points since we started this.
Of course we had issues, but ever since the issues started, everybody had the “excuse” that the bar is not stable and therefore didnt show the bar. Now, we cannot say “its okay” forever, thats why I made a somewhat ultimatum.
@DiscoUK; You may want to change the code to the new (more reliable) server/dns, see here:

@Bullwinkle: First, w0dk4 said “next month”, I think that’s a pretty lax schedule and more than enough for everyone to get up to speed.
Second, we’re speaking of a 5kb piece of JavaScript, not the new Amazon website. Any server, anywhere in the world, would be able to manage without noticeable delays, unless it is under attack (which is why we’ve moved the bar away from TSP’s main host in the first place).
-
I disagree on both points, Friendly: a month is not reasonable time to assess reliability, and it does not matter how large the script is if it takes two seconds to resolve and respond (and I am not saying that it does).
However, as I said, do what you think is right. It’s your bar.

i will see what i can do about the bar strange. indeed.ok i tried to fix it i see what happens tommorow. sometimes things break down at forummotion but it works on forum page
http://evilempirerevolution.forumotion.net/forum.htm
ok i copied and pasted the codes from the forums to the portal same thing i also copied and pasted the new code same thing. it could be something on forumotions side. but like i said the forums still has a working bar.

Sorry about http://www.lsf-hq.tk/, we just updated to the new version of e107 yesterday and it seems to have killed the bar. I’ll talk with our host to fix this problem as soon as possible.
-
@Imperiumclan: WEll, I deleted the old site and created some kind of a placeholder:
http://hwguide.ch/bas/imperium/However, the bar is present at the forums and I doubt that my placeholder-homepage will be used much anyways.

The Frag-force.net bar includes Starport in it, does that count?
It isn’t a FL site though….
-
update on the evil empire revolution i made it work. just had to remove the code from the body and give it its own box.
-
Just a reminder for the sites still missing the bar, we will do a cleanup soon.

The idea behind the bar is that you can reach every site from every site, therefore if everbody starts to make their own network bar, it kinda fails at that mission.
So, no, a link to Starport does not count because this is not about links to this site, but links to all the sites.

This is all well and good, but we’ve been forwarding Freelancers to The Starport for a while now. The benefit that i see, with having our site on the network bar, is that we not only support Freelancer, we also support other games, which can also be a help to those who play more than just “Freelancer”.
We have our own network bar, because we are involved in more than just one game. We decided that it was time to take things to the next level, involving more communities from a wider spectrum of games. Instead of having the narrow focus on Freelancer, we’re supporting new release Space Simulation games, FPS games, RTS games etc.
We have a link to The Starport on our network bar, in return of the favour you were doing for us, by having Frag-Force on your bar.
Remove our link if you wish, that’s fine by us. But in action, The Starport will be removed from the Frag-Force bar, and the Affiliates block, and we will no longer be forwarding Freelancers to this site.
-
Do you not understand the purpose of this bar? This is not about The Starport, it’s about the community as a whole. Linking to just this site is missing the point.
-
I do see the purpose of the bar and the idea behind it.
Only i think if you only put it on Freelancer sites, there don’t come quickly new people. The most who play Freelancer are people who already play for years, or…maybe bypass trough a friend. And my experience is, regardless how old the game now is, a lot of people never hear of it.
But if Frag Force have more games on his site it’s more a “all round gaming” site.
I think on that way you get also maybe new Freelancers. Free commercial for Freelancer outside the Freelancer communityIf you put there Starport in as link on the bar, i don’t think it’s a bad thing, because i think that Starport is a central point for Freelancer nowa days.
From here people spread around.
And that’s what a community need to imho.We can’t suspect that they place all servers in a list, If they have more games on their bar, It’s a common work around for the game Freelancer, centralized at Starport.
And i don’t think that’s hurting the community
There isn’t only black or white. There exist also Grey. (No, not our Wolf)

Dont worry, if we had a significant amount of visits from Frag Force, we’d seek for a compromise, but since that is not the case (we got 1 visit this month from Frag Force) its a win-win situation for Frag Force right now which is simply not fair to the participating sites of the FL community network.
Therefore, it has clearly more value to show the participating sites that we stick to our ideals and values and that we are serious about the community network.
Establishing trust and being reliable are requirements for the network to function.

Agree;
Get rid of all noted and true (dead) links, not needed and I have wondered why they are in it in the first place. It’s good that you posted this because it most definitely got a response and it’s not up to you to report changes in services other than to keep the FLCNB up to date. It’s up to those that are in it to keep THEIR info coming to you for that purpose.
I don’t run it on my forum because it’s HTML and it’s not allowed per Host. If it were bbcode then yes.
There are many that are just not working or, DEAD as mentioned but some have just moved and have not bothered to inform you of their doing so, some Community. hmm?
Sorry C.C. but, there is no Plasmafire anymore and it needs to go period. You still visit here, you should know. The site doesn’t allow access even to those that once had it.
FLGaming Zone posted that they were closing. I think I posted it here somewhere? Not needed anymore either. There’s others too.
Not knocking anyone here but, 404 Errors and the like suck!
The FLCNB is like having your name up in lights in Hollywood. Yes, it’s nice to see your site advertised in this way but, it’s not the TSP’s job to keep your info updated, it’s yours.
Send updates whenever you change services or, loose it here.

If you’re only linking to the Starport, then you’re missing every single other Freelancer community site normally featured in the FLCN. You’re basically asking to be listed in a link network next to other sites that you yourself don’t link to.
Edit: What the ass, I missed this entire second page. It looks like the link’s already been removed anyways.

I am a Root-Admin on Frag-Force and I stop in on this site every other day – I don’t sign in but I keep an eye on this community as I have played Freelancer for Years
Alot of the Frag-Force Community stops in on a regular basis as we are all ex-freelancers or on a freelancer break
We also until recently hosted the SSM Freelancer Mod and previously other mods as well but with the server change we lost the ability to host but we are still a companion site to Digital Brilliance and we feature Freelancer Forums on our Site
We are trying to branch out and broaden the community leave us to the Fan sites and possibly take us off the server list but don’t just throw us by the Wayside
Our Mission Statement on the Front Page deliberately Mentions Freelancer and Welcomes them to our site
" While Frag Force no-longer hosts a Freelancer Server, we still encourage and welcome all Freelancer veterans into the community, with open arms. "

I also am a Root Admin on Frag- Force and the bar brings in all kinds of other gamers. It seems to me thats the point of the bar. I haven’t posted in a while due to real life things, but I am a member here and and admin on several other sites. I believe removing Frag-Force from the bar would be wrong it is a new and growing site that has a lot to give. When other gamers use the bar and come to the site it should help both sites as it will bring in new blood to the game of FreeLancer and that community. As well as to other games. We support FreeLancer on our site and all Freelancer Players or people.
I do stop in and check to see the way the site has changed and read some of the posts. I also am a advid modder of another game. But i’m also a FreeLancer. And I still play the game and when all the sites have quit FreeLancer I will still be wearing out my spare disks. All Sites benefit from a way to link to each other. So if you remove us It won’t hurt us, But it would be a boon to both sites. It’s your choice do as you will. We will keep and open mind on the Frag- force site towards the FreeLancer community you are all wecome.Yellow Eagle

I’m not saying your guys aren’t Freelancer fans and supporters, as it appears quite to the contrary. I’m just saying that the whole point of the FLCN is to link all Freelancer community sites together. Why not just put the FLCN bar right above or below the FragForce bar?
-
Doing major cleanup now!
@LSF: Please add the bar to your new forum ASAP, you didnt get deleted since you left a message in this thread.
@Frag-Force: You got removed… If you still would like to do a link-exchange with just our site, The-Starport, you’re welcome to do so.
As said earlier, in order to appear on the bar, you need to show it on your site.
