Disabling Single Player Mode
-
@F!R:
…
Why should anyone create a mod 4 those un-social people?
;D
…… i didn’t realy wait 4 an answer
- and there was none given.
But btw of the statment above - how do we know, that more people play FL offline?
-
The way i see it is if someone is reworking normal FL by adding a few systems and ships etc, then yes, it should also be available for SP as well as there are obviously quite a few players who only play SP and would like the benefits of some new ships to fly or places to visit.
By the same token there’s a bunch of players that prefer MP and can’t be bothered with SP anymore, to answer mknote, the reason being you can talk and interact with other other players, take part in events, whatever the server is offering. With some of the server tools available now, things like dockable battleships, dynamic economies are all a reality, something that simply SP cannot provide.

OK
–- joking off ----Why should anyone h8 MP?
— Cause he’s the un-social typ and just wants 2 stay alone?
— Cause he doesn’t trust fellows with nicks like Gibbon, OPR8R, Mindhunter, w0dka, Lancer Solurus, F!R, …
and is convinced, those will steal his banking data, privat photos, etc. while he’s playing online?
— Cause he lives in Tibet, can get online with 2400 baud max. and the police will knock on his door within 5 minutes, if he does.Why will i not mod 4 SP?
— Cause i m not going to fix problems like
“My game crashed, when i was playing the storyline and Juni …”
— Cause i won’t be able to protect the mod in a way,
you ll need a serious modder and some time 2 create a server version
so i v seen 3 or 4 ‘additional’ servers of WTS 3.42.
— Cause i want to have the MP possibilities
(see Gibbons post) -
My reasons for disliking MP is two-fold:
1. I am, as F!R stated, an unsocial person who likes to be alone, although he says it like it’s a bad thing.
2. I am in complete control in SP. No server to try to connect to, no rules to follow. Complete freedom.
I should point out that SP is not the same as the campaign. Many mods (my own included) cannot work with the single player campaign. In my mods case, it’s because it takes place eight years after the events of the first game. When I refer to a mod being SP compatable, I refer to the OpenSP, as the game is after you complete the final mission. And yes, I think it’s perfectly in your rights not to make it SP compatable, I’m simply giving you a differing opinion.

1. I am, as F!R stated, an unsocial person who likes to be alone, although he says it like it’s a bad thing.… hm … did i … intended 2 do so i had use anti-social … but english isn’t my native language, so … ;D
2. I am in complete control in SP. No server to try to connect to, no rules to follow. Complete freedom.
I think we count that in as reason #4.
@mknote Do you cheat (SP)? -
Multiplayer only? Why the hell would you do that? There are people (like me) who absolutely hate multiplayer.
MK
Main reason, Most of the MOD’s change things that crash the already “Buggy” SP scripts to begin with. No one wants to debug the SP Scripts when there main focus is a Multiplayer MOD. I think if you seek a singleplayer experience you need to seek a singleplayer MOD, there was maybe three or four written in all these years… Â Truth is Freelancer is anything but alone here, every game you look at that is modded has so much more available for multiplayer, some has nothing at all for singleplayer.
Besides, I think you gave up too fast on multiplayer. It comes in a lot of different flavors, and I can’t recall seeing you post how much you dislike the server I am on. Although, If you did visit there, I think I know who you would want to shoot at first… ;D
-
Cheat? The only one I know of is the invicibility cheat, and I don’t use that.
Come to think of it, though, I haven’t actually played the game in over a year. When I load it up, it’s always to test changes in my mod (most recently, that has meant changes in SURs and ship models).

there are pros and cons for both, SP and MP
and in my mods id like the player to choose what he likes
thats why they can choose between SP, OpenSP and MP and yeah it took quiete some work to get that all running fine without bugs or crashes… but I believe its worth it… especially since many of todays CF MP players only played SP before -
Sigh This is an old argument folks, one that will only be resolved when the MP community finally & inevitably dies, which is something that happens to all game communities eventually, so don’t say it won’t happen.
The thing to remember is that not everybody get’s off on PVP or roleplay, some just want to jump in a ship and explore, shoot npc’s, trade etc without having to worry about STUPID RP rules, clans or that “spotty little tosser” that jumps ppl without warning, in addition having someone “talk” to you in the chat window is annoying as hell when your in the middle of a hairy furball :P.

Says the antisocial hermit. Joking ;D
A mod should have as much possibilities and capabilities, but the SP is one bad beast. Unfortunately, you sometimes just have huge trouble leaving it intact and compatible with your mod. Considering MOST of the community is MP, it’s normal that the majority of the mods cater to that audience. Not saying it’s good or better, it’s just that way.
As much as yes, it can be bothering to have somebody speaking to you or kill you, it can also be fun to team up with someone and take that same guy down for what he did. Real players have much deeper interactions and less predictable or repetitive gameplay can come from multiplayer. Really, both sides have advantages…

@Gibbon:
You advertising my server rules there F!R?
…. 2 which of the 3 do you refer?
@F!R:
…. very few rules (no insulting + cheating + some minor blabla)
;D
I m also no friend of lot of rules.
Playing can get a bit boring,
if you first have 2 read 3 pages of fine print.
And I v 2 commit, that i wasn’t able 2 understand
the bunch pf rules on some servers,
that included stuff, how 2 tag your char and
which ship not 2 fly or 2 fly …… -
Ya gotta love the four page “Contract” types.
Some of my favorite excerpts, ::)
“You must ask and receive permission before any PvP”
“On being killed, you must remain in dock for 10 minutes”
“No Character warping, you must wait five minutes between activation of each character”
And PLEASE, if you have these rules on your server, Don’t say a word. I am only stating I find myself laughing hysterically when I read them. I am not so certain I could respond without doing the same… ;D
Ironically, I have heard more people state they didn’t play Multiplayer because they dislike playing by all the rules, not because of the “lawlessness” of getting randomly shot at.

@Grey:
……
“No Character warping, you must wait five minutes between activation of each character”
…yaaaaa - get FLHook
set
–------------
…
[General]
…
AntiF1=300000
DisconnectDelay=300000
…Rule done.
There are even FLHook versions out there,
where players can have tokens, which protect them from
doing pvp.And maybe someone can create a FLHook addon
similar 2 the trade / group request
“you got a pvp request - accept / deny”
“accept”
“PvP times are monday between 10pm and 12pm, thuesdays between 4pm an 8pm …
your attempt to do pvp NOW is a clear violation of server rule #37f
both players will be fined 50% of their money”PS. I know, that the above concept is not perfect, for player with only few money.
-
Ironically , one of the most popular RPG Server has about 66 rules in 7 § .
I just had an overlook there ^^ .
Ohh, I gotta know now… Are my three favorites included so I will be certain to avoid that one? ;D
Yes, RPG is popular. Just look at WOW… But even Roleplay servers shouldn’t have to hire a bank of lawyers to write a library of rules.
Flavor of the month, To each his own, Different is good, Variety is the spice of life.
Just don’t expect everyone to eat your cooked spinach. And truthfully that is what the argument about disabling Singleplayer is.
You don’t like the taste of his spinach, (Aka Multiplayer only Mod), don’t eat it. But stop expecting him to change the flavor to suit you.

I just have to say something here. “You must ask permission before any PvP”. Er, no. The npc’s don’t ask so why should i? “You must wait in dock for 10mins after being killed”. To quote John McEnroe, you cannot be serious. What the hell am i to do for 10mins? Pure lunacy. Apart from the basic no cheating, no racist remarks etc, that really should be it. I thought the idea of FL was to do what you want, not restrict the hell out of the player. I’m glad i don’t go that far (** checks own forum quickly **)
