Modeling question
-
Well actually a few questions.
First,
When creating a say, a space station, is it ok to have holes in the model i.e. missing a face?
As long as face is not be seen, to make it easier to texture?Second,
Saving a model as .3db, for modular parts, do I need to sur file
them to not disappear when almost off screen? Thanks

Models do not have to be watertight. SURs, afaik, do.

Cool beans. Thanks.

It is absolutely correct to remove every face you actually can’t see. This saves resources.

Similar question, i think.
Can i have some faces that pass through each other?
I’m working on a model and it needs to have elements from another ship, so i took the wings from there and i want to add mounts now, will this work? -
That’s also just fine. It’s called floating. If you’re trying to use certain techniques, like vertex painting or vertex baking, that can present an issue, but FL doesn’t have these things afaik, so it’s not an issue.

Thank you very much for your answer Sizer. I hope i will finish this model soon and i will post it for some constructive criticism.

You might want to hop over to the model showcase and pick up the new equipment base and textures I made. Feel free to grab the models I have there to see how I manage things. Or just post some pics of your own ships!
