Running it on Vista is no more complicated than XP, only difference is make sure it isn’t in one of the program files folders and you have disabled UAC (for autorestart issue). FL will run in both 32 bit and 64 bit. Older versions of FLHook (pre 1.61) will have most likely have issues on 64 bit though.

Another thing to watch for is the timer issue on multicore processors. Set the affinity to 1 core manually or do it thru a .bat file (the command line interface (SHELL) has a command for it now)

But regarding topics subject, I would like to pin-point crucial matter playing this old game with different FPS.
There is no doubt that players with HIGH FPS have advantage in PvP!
Fighting with 60 fps vs 170 fps player makes for you similar thing like thing called “mouse lag” and that player is significantly faster in turns and avoiding rockets, mines, …
When fight is limited to 60 fps for both players (with common.dll hack) that fight cant last longer than 30-40 sec! You in that situation rarely miss cose player is slower and guns hit target!
With FPS rised fight, its longer, faster, more agile, which is wrong! Simply, the physics of the game are spoiled. 60 FPS is a must!

So, to be specific, how can be game limited stable to 60 FPS?

Sry, but adoxa’s finding does this, but I must confess that its not working perfectly. Players with good and bad PC specs have same issue. When they join server their FPS drop down to 30 FPS, and when they start recording it rise to 60. Having game below 60 FPS makes laggy feels. In most cases, it works, but when it does not, they lose interest to play a buggy server - mod.

I would like to hear others, their opinion and personal experience! Hope you didn’t fight for first time! ; )

Afaik the cursor is configured through mouse.ini or the related texture file.
Or did u mean the crosshair? (little red cross which indicates where u must shoot at)

Check freelancer.ini for the following section:
[Startup]

Make sure the movie_file = lines exist and do NOT have a semi-colon in front of them.

edit: Oh… I see what you’re saying, the movie is playing but no video. My guess is that you need to reinstall your VGA drivers. That would be the first step I’d take.

Not Feelancer.exe - you need flserver.exe 🙂 🙂

You can control the port selection with the /P command line option to the FLServer.exe program. For example, if you wanted to have the server host on port 1234, you would use the following command line FLServer.exe /P1234. You can easily modify the provided shortcut to FLServer.exe to include this option. Simply edit the Target line and add your own /Pxxx after the FLServer.exe text.

“Provided shortcut” means start - programs - microsoft games - freelancer - flserver - right click - edit
