    Okay if that one looks like a bullshit, i have another, technical one.
    Iā€™m in a mess with engies of ships and how theoretically ideal they shall work. One friend told me that this is possible to make an engines system in a spacesim based on a real-world physics. I tried to understand him but got almost nothing.
    The point is to invent an engine system that will remain FL dynamics and features (0-100% max speed achieving times, movement physics, etc), but:

    allow speed variations between ships, f.e. Defender shall have less speed than the Patriot; engines supposed to be changeable between ships, f.e. some Liberty faction manufactures an engine that is suitable to the whole lineup of ships of one size class (i dont think that vanilla system with a unique engine for every ship is a good decision cuz it is not correct as realistic manufacturing process and also neglects any sense to throw them into market); have realistic or close to realistic parameters to be variable and their logics.

    Iā€™ve managed to create an interesting one, but it is unrealistically uses a ship mass in its logics.
    Shipā€™s mass determines the required output power of an engine to achieve 100% max speed that is fixed per ship.
    Engines have an ouptut power and sum (assuming some ship can carry more than one engine) of them suggested to match shipā€™s required output power in order to achieve 100% max speed, but when they does not match, resulting max speed can be above or beyond 100% max speed, what variates a gameplay and basically is a second point of implementation of marketable engines.
    So, (max speed with 100% output power match = MS; mass = M; engine output power=OP; all values are imaginary just to show logics, %s are just relative and supposed to be numerical megawatts or kinda)
    If ship has M=100 and MS=100, with OP=120% max speed = 120;
    If ship has M=120 and MS=100, with OP=120% max speed = 110;
    If ship has M=80 and MS=100, with OP=120% max speed = 140;
    If ship has M=100 and MS=100, with OP=80% max speed = 80;
    If ship has M=120 and MS=100, with OP=80% max speed = 60;
    If ship has M=80 and MS=100, with OP=80% max speed = 90.
    Steerings, acceleration etc supposed to fit same logics but actially i have no idea how they work IRL, im a dumb non-technical designer and need help.

    That seems fine as casual gameplay mecanics but looks like a total bullshit again in term of realistic physics and i dont think it can be acceptable by public.

    Question is: whats your opinion and how do you see an engines system in an ideal game in a case that they shall fit terms at stat of msg.

    I donā€™t experience that. My monitor wonā€™t go above 768, so I canā€™t test the same resolutions, but hereā€™s 4:3 (1024x768) without JFLP and 16:9 (1366x768) with. The location is a direct launch (Consoleā€™s [c]s .[/c]) from Planet Malta.

    Iā€™m a day late and dollar shot. Links to site, only 1 does and, but download link shot. New NVidia card cured most of my Freelancer in Win 10 troubles I had, but Vanilla needs a shot in the arm. Could someone pack them in a zip and post before this is lost in digital void?

    Went back and asked ā€œMister Marketingā€ he gave me an exlpaination of the two different fonts on the tagline. Makes perfect sense. The european marketing went out to a firm ā€œover thereā€. They did a redo of the text. U.S. version will have dunstep font, eurpean versions will Not have the dunstep font (one with characters for most languages), beacuse europe marketers used more than an english language font
    (go figure ). Dunstep might have a bit of a problem with Greek or Finnish.

    Makes me sorry my foriegn languages are Spanish and Latin.

    Big Edit. Microsoft wanted promo release because Freelancer won awards. Games always want to re-brand when they do. Even if they have to buy a couple to parade. Though Microsoft wouldnā€™t.

    Iā€™m not saying itā€™s not a potential concern, but between wider and wider use of NAT and IP exhaustion coming largely from mobile devices and IoT, there are ways to handle it without removing IPv4 from regular ISPs.

    Home internet wonā€™t lose IPv4 until itā€™s absolutely unavoidable, and FLā€™s gonna be long dead by then.

    Yes, I have read about the same thing on a few websites.
    To be honest, I think it is a shame that Microsoft never released the source code (they lost itĀ ? Really?). All issues could have been avoided since a long time if they did.

    Mehā€¦ I am going to hijack this thread now and ask (I apologize in advance)ā€¦

    What has happened?
    Its mid Decemberā€¦ today I got a mail from Moddb telling me that the 2nd phase of the annual mod awards just has started. Today is also the day where I noticed once more that the rest of the FL community completely wasted this opportunity to promote their mods and FL as a game.

    Ok, I have to admit that I have noticed exactly the same last year and probably also the year before.
    The thing isā€¦ every year I see discussions here about ā€œAnyone still aroundā€ā€¦ or ā€œThe future of FLā€ or anything else about how to support FL and save the game, etc.
    It is great that there are still people which care about FL.
    It is not so great that the outside world (the people that dont visit TSP) never notice that people still care about this game.

    I tell you how I see it.
    Once a year, in December, Moddb allows us to show that we still care about Freelancer. It allows us to show that our mods are not outdated junk that can not compete with modern stuff (really many FL mods are great). It allows us to remind old players how much fun FL was/is and show new players what they have missed so far.
    I am totally aware that we will not get hundreds of new players to play FL now but I know for sure (due to many years of experience) that it makes a difference. Every year during and after the Mod awards I see new players trying out FL and my mod. Every year I see that old players return.

    Isnt that what we want most?
    Players.
    10-20 additional players on the servers would make a huge difference already.
    Moddb had almost 3.3 mio visitors in the past 10 days. More than 53k votes have been submitted.
    Dont you think that FL could benefit from that?

    I am not writing this here to promote my mod or to sound like a smartass. Id like you to think about if its worth to promote FL and FL mods even if its just for a slight chance to bring players into the game again.
    The results might not be a game changer but I can guarantee that they are better than doing nothing.

    In the end it is your decision.
    I just felt that I had to share my views about it and maybe even make suggestions.
    The Mod Awards are not over yet eventhough phase one is done. But lets face it, its not about winning an award here. Its about getting attention.
    Right now Freelancer belongs to the games which managed it into the Top 100 (it doesnt matter with which mod). There are 10 days left in which you can use this attention to promote ANY Freelancer mod out there (it doesnt have to be my mod). Players interested in the Mod Awards will browse the games which are now listed there, which means that the chances that players visit FL mod profiles is higher than during the rest of the year.
    Update your mod profiles, post picture, write articlesā€¦ use the attention to make people interested in FL.

    And maybe next year our communities might remember to post news and ask our visitors to support FL and our mods.(?)

    Interesting. A couple of months ago I decided to play Freelancer with Trinus VR. The cutscenes were incredibly immersive, but the gameplay was utterly disorienting. I played it 100% vanilla.
    It made me wonder what could make my favorite game more relevant nowadays, so I came back to check whether the community is still kicking and stumbled upon this post.

    Iā€™ve had that idea for quite a while, a few good years actually; to one day claim the rights for Freelancer, remaster it with all engine improvements the community created and new shiny models, then redistribute it on Steam along with the original game as a bundle.

    FF and R8R have already said it all, the lack of motivation prematurely buries the idea. Money doesnā€™t seem like an option, we can barely even maintain the forumā€™s host with donation. Crowdfunding just wonā€™t work because the game is far too unknown to attract enough people, especially with all the competition at hand.

    Iā€™d definitely be glad to spare some time and contribute to such a project any way I could, and later maybe start an actual remaster project with friends once they finish their studies. Hopefully, the community will remain active, or at least keep its data archived till then.
