    I’ve almost finished with getting the OS and everything tweaked on this new rig, work takes some time away from that right now.

    I have been working on a self contained way to create a portable freelancer.

    Basically means that you can drag and drop a Freelancer folder anywhere, the saved games get created within that folder, also FLMM works correctly for JUST that installation.

    Other programs that look at the apppath for Freelancer will also work and stay modular/independant. I want to retrofit a FLMM copy just for the installation of mod tools but I need Adoxa’s help with that one wink wink, nudge nudge lol. Could even go one step further and have it pull a list of mod files from a URL if he would be so kind.

    I think it would be good to be able to just download a toolpack/tools individually and just install them by double clicking the .modtool extension it would have and work with the file structure.

    I’m not ready to release that just yet though, couple of bugs, shortcuts are a pain in the ass, may need to look into a custom installer, then it can be setup by just copying the existing FL game files into the new folder layout via a script.

    After I’ve finished that then I will start looking at updating the client to make it a bit more respectable in these modern times lol.

    Crossfire mod use dynamic economy - trading routes for normal commodities changes daily at server restart. If you do not like ask other players (this actually is very good idea … ask), then the best what you can do is use one your character for exploration (at least Sirius space) and have on this character purchased most lucrative commodities. With this you will see that trading in Crossfire space have some order which is unnoticeable on first look. (could be good idea check CF wiki on swat-portal for commodities which need only 1/2 and 1 cargo space)

    The manual is written to be an LSF handbook that Tobias has acquired and annotated for Trent. It’s a good read.

    Yep, it works without mod - just insert Nvidia Card with 3D Vision and take the glasses - tested long time ago

    unpack the game files

    use the tools to export the models to obj or 3ds

    rest is how to import obj or 3ds saved models to fl - see the tutorials here at tsp.

    you’ll need to use the modded texture upgrades of the HW community to get a fair result - the vanilla textures are, let’s say not “up to date”. It’s a mod - so please be fair and honor their usage restrictions in your project before you will release something.

    Installed JFLP, went back into the PerfOptions file and set things how they should be, and bam, no more fresco paintings in the skies and shadows.

    Not sure what in the world was causing it, but I think I’ve got things under control now. Just throwing in some texture mods here and there to make things look nice. The “HD FL” mod is a FLMM file only from the looks of it, and the texture it uses for the starscapes is horrible looking compared to ones I found elsewhere, so it’s a no go on that one. I’m picking and choosing files from Bo!'s “Swag Pack”, some ship textures, interface stuff, etc.

    I’m looking for some character retextures now (probably just for the main characters). Hell, might even take a shot making Trent, Juni, etc textures myself if I could figure out what files to screw around with and how to extract/open them.

    Do you guys know of any good retexture bits and pieces? Characters specifically?

    Well, in the end I just included misn and know and let it be (it should be relatively correct, even if it’s not mathematically correct). I think what it should really do is list each individual offering the bribe (since faction matters), with the individual’s probability range (faction weight / NPCs in faction / (misn + bribes + rumors + knows) to / (misn + bribes), which still isn’t quite right as it doesn’t take the number of spots available into account, but character_density itself isn’t reliable, either), but that’s more than I can do via patching.

    I have a couple of mods as well as vanilla in different folders and I can start any of them (rename the “My games\Freelancer\Accts” folders each time).

    I still enjoy the vanilla game better now and then.

    But there are not many players out there, and most seem to just ignore anyone new.

    I too remember the good old days.

    Save urself from pain! Use adoxa’s FlCodec and give urself a cash.

    Maybe adjust and balance the mod and continue his development?

    Sure,
    If you know how to un-install freelancer, then go ahead and do it.
    Once it’s un-stalled you can start the install process, keep an eye on the on-screen instructions and you should see a part to change the directry. just change that from (x86) programs etc…. to Desk top.

    Basically, jflp is the best patch available for freelancer, it’s unofficial, but it really should be the only patch you apply to freelancer if you plan to play the game without mods. It provides many bugfixes, and some nice features like widescreen, and it also contains hudshift when you install it. If you install jflp on a client then install it on the server also, you will find a full description of changes in your freelancer directory in a file called jflp after you install it.

    The 1.1 patch is an official patch, just install it on server and client, only really necessary for servers but just install it anyway as you can’t do any harm.

    You don’t need to install any other patches, hudshifts, quickfixes etc.

    If you plan to use any of the major mods, forget about installing any of the above patches etc, just activate the mod via FLMM1.3 as they will 99% of the time contain all of the necessary patches and features, see the “read me” in most mods for instructions.

    Thanks to the Creators and the Backers. Thanks to the many game Modders out there that never give up.

    I played the game when it was released and have never stopped. I always play every winter season here in Colorado. I always pick new mods to add and have a great time playing this awesome space sim .

    I have played EVE and spent hundreds of dollars and it seems I never get what I get out of playing Freelancer.
    I have played the X series and it just don’t work for me
    either , the controls are terrible. I have to say if you want to make a game people enjoy make the controls easy to
    use. It seems Freelancer will always be number one
    until someone just makes it easy and fun……
