At present i’d say i was at a novice level and now see how much i have to learn about programming. And also it shows me what you guys have created and all the knowledge thats needed. Maybe i can return to this subject in the future when i have a better understanding of it all.

Next update:
The server is still off-line at the moment, i have been testing it with a peronal project i have been working on for quite some time.
Hopefully this will end up as an optional modification to play both on-line on the server and off-line in singleplayer.
It’s still in the very early stages and at this point all is based on speculation that it can be made into “an optional mod”. And it may turn into a requirement if things dont go to plan.

I did tinker with vanilla fl some time ago, the zone outside manhatten. It was simple stuff, just upping the density. I thought things started to get a bit messy after around 50 ships, but only when large numbers were spawning at the same time. After they had spawned it was less of an issue.

This was some time ago though and likely on my old core2 duo system, and no doubt this would really be dependant upon your system specs. Everyone is going to have a different number for you.

How the hell are you going to achieve ballance with that many ships in a fight anyway? Might look cool from a distance but up close and personal it would just piss me off.

They’re XTS models and there’s a Jumpgate one as well, we used them in a mod several years ago since they were so shiny! LOL

Recently, i have been working on tests with the mod and multi-player to see what works and fits in with the idea.
So i started with a vanilla server (Astrodome V0.01 on the list) and added new starting templates, unlocked gates/holes etc… for players to have a new experience without actually have to download any mods.
After editing npc and base weaponry the server started feeling much better and the population started growing.
After finally getting some of the single-player factions added into the mix i started remembering the fun i had with the mission scripts and decided to give Multi-player mission scripts another go…

So far the results are great!, added two dockable base’s into the Newyork system which the players have been docking and interacting with, lots of other objects and single-player npc with no mods needed by the player at all… Anyways…

The vanilla server has got me hooked, so my work on the main mod of this topic will be on hold for a while.

I’m using some edited bar files already without problems, maybe the mission thn need to be saved in a different format UTF 16 or something.

Basic modding is simple, but when it comes to flhook programming or writing plugins im stucked.
(and i dont want to bother anyone)

Its cool that ToW will have all the FL Coding features and that u r planing to share it with the public, but pls dont hide ur secrets 🙂

I can’t think of any disadvantages m8. There’s a couple of mods out there that have them in game with no issues. As for the effect, I guess that would be either a matter of (your) personal taste, or whatever you think the players on your server would like best. Although the more people, the more opinions. Personally, I would go with something that looked like a pulsating beam. But like I said, that’s personal. 😉

Looks like i need a different approach to this then, i no nothing at all about hooks or the coding of c++ (or whatever)

Maybe i could change this, so its the very first mission that changes the ship.

It’s a shame really, i wanted to be able to give players a “taste” of better equipment and ships for each mission so they can save up to buy their favourite.

p.s - if anybody does come across a program (or whatever) that can help me do this, please give me the heads up.
i have tried the console.dll and yes, it is very good, but i have no clue where i would start to intergrate the features with the missions.

just a quick update on the jump holes thing… ive managed it using the same technique as the single player game!

p.s thanks again for your idea’s chips, ive had a ton of fun trying to do all kinds of crazy things with mission’s and ive even added you into “The Abyss- Demo” credits. 🙂

I would recommend the XML Project, but since I came in late, everyone’s more familiar with Lancer’s ALE Editor. With XML, the number before the colon is the time (in seconds, I think). At least, I presumed that first number to be timing, but there are some negative values; maybe that’s just Freelancer screwing with us…
